Our Story
About FROTH
A neighborhood coffee shop built by people who've called the Heights home their whole lives.
The Beginning
Not a Franchise.
Not a Side Project.
Home.
In October 2017, Al and Maria Ciminata opened the doors to an 1870s corner building on Franklin Street — the same Heights neighborhood they were both born and raised in. They didn't pick this location because a consultant told them to. They picked it because it was home.
Al and Maria Ciminata were both born and raised in the Heights. They opened FROTH in 2017 inside an 1870s corner building on Franklin Street -- not because it was trendy, but because it was home. Their Italian-American roots show up in the pastry case, and their neighborhood pride shows up in every cup of Jersey City-roasted Kobrick coffee they pour.
Eight years later, FROTH is a Heights institution. 291 reviews and counting, a 4.7-star rating, and a community of regulars who come as much for the people as the pour-overs. The building's ornate columns and exposed brick haven't changed since 1870. Neither has the Ciminatas' commitment to making this corner of the Heights feel like yours.
What We Stand For
Why Froth Is Different
Locally Roasted
Every cup starts with Kobrick Coffee Co. beans — roasted right here in Jersey City, not shipped from some coastal warehouse. Keeping it local isn't a marketing line; it's how Al and Maria do business.
Heights Born & Raised
Al and Maria grew up on these streets. They opened Froth because the Heights deserved a coffee shop that felt like home — not a chain outpost or a transplant's weekend project.
The Gathering Place
Froth hosts local artist showcases, is a go-to for remote workers, and is the spot where Heights neighbors run into each other on Saturday mornings. It's a coffee shop that doubles as a living room.
Italian-American Warmth
The Ciminatas' Italian heritage shows up in the pastry case, the hospitality style, and the way they treat every customer like extended family. You don't just get served — you get welcomed.
